Researching and developing innovative services in the fields of new mobility technology and sustainable development. Attoma is actively involved in research and development of innovative services in the emerging areas of new mobility technology, the “Web 2.0 City”, sustainable development and its implications in terms of new ways of using and accessing information. In this regard, Attoma designs and implements multi-partner research projects, change management models and training programs.
Design and specification of integrated traveler information systems and identities in the mobility sector. As a central issue of our socio-economic model’s evolution over the next few decades, mobility is an essential aspect of the basic human need to be connected to the world. The decipherability of multimodal public transportation networks, the coherence and functional relevance of traveler information systems (whether static or dynamic) form part of the ongoing mobility projects to which Attoma brings an innovative and transversal approach as well as its unique know-how.
Design and specifications of client document systems and of complex graphic systems deployment tools. Organizing and prioritizing information, normalizing its syntax and graphic presentation allows businesses and organisations to retake control of document production processes, the volume and complexity of which continue to increase exponentially. One of the pioneers of information design in Europe, Attoma considerably improves the efficiency and impact of client document systems – bank statements, invoices, etc. – thanks to its know-how in user-focused design and to its knowledge of industrial document production processes (desktop publishing). This approach also makes it possible to design high-performing tools for the deployment of complex graphic systems, such as information master plans or implementation guidelines.
Design and specification of interactive services Graphic User Interfaces for general public and professional audiences. Today, every service needs to be treated as a multi-channel interactive platform. It follows that the ability to design interfaces that are both user-friendly and relevant from an ergonomic and functional point of view is vital to the success of any project in this field. Attoma can lay claim to an unmatched level of experience and methodological strength, having successfully executed a number of large-scale projects for applications as diverse as vending machines, «mission critical» professional systems or especially complex web–based sites and applications.
Map and signing systems design. Maps and signing systems enable individuals to mentally and physically navigate complex territories and spaces. Recent developments in applied cognitive psychology now make it possible to see these issues in a new light, following an open-minded approach that favours the emergence of new solutions that are both more relevant and more efficient than traditional trade practices. In this field, Attoma makes full use of its knowledge of user habits and puts into effect its commitment to simplicity inspired by Voltaire’s famous adage: «The secret of being a bore is to tell everything».
Simplicity, consistency, ease of access: these are the values that set the human factor at the heart of Attoma’s approach form the basis of the design process the agency applies to each project, from the precise identification of the client’s requirements through the production and implementation stages.
Systems have never been as complex as they are now; never before have we been faced on a daily basis with such a wide variety of choices. This embarrassment of options—chaotic, clamouring, indecipherable—exponentially exacerbates the fragility of systems as well as the risks of individual failure and exclusion. In this context, the stakes of simplification extend far beyond considerations of mere common sense, becoming central to the industrial issue of risk–management. In putting the user—his needs, cognitive abilities, emotions and behaviours—at the heart of our approach, we see simplicity as the true object of our craft. It is this craft that we make available to businesses and organisations wanting to effectively nurture a win–win relationship with their target audiences.
Not only must the meaning, form, ergonomics and aesthetics of a project coherently satisfy the relevant functional specifications, they should also voice the identity and aims of the business or organisation behind it. Clearly visible in the different offerings we produce for our clients, this coherence makes it possible for audiences to immediately recognize the communicator and to position themselves in relation to the service being offered to them. The relationship between the business or organisation and the user then crystallizes into an «Experience» endowed with a life of its own as a productive source of meaning and value.
The digital divide; an aging population; cognitive saturation in the face of the constant multiplication of stimuli of all kinds; answering the requirements of audiences with special physical or cognitive needs… so many factors that make the issue of accessibility to all a central concern in any service design project. In this perspective, concepts such as the decipherability, ease of use and self–explanatory nature of a system take on a new meaning and play a key role in enabling effective client ownership of the service on offer.
